BEACHWOOD, Ohio - The final round of the Telich/Sunlife Financial CSU Invitational was cancelled due to heavy rain on Tuesday at Canterbury Golf Club (Par 71, 7,012 yards). Oakland finished in second place (587/+19), six shots shy of Malone University's (NAIA) 581 (+13).
Players were able to get 6-8 holes in before the continuous rain forced them in to the clubhouse. After a 90-minute delay, the tournament was called due to unplayable course conditions. Malone and OU were followed by Austin Peay (589), Wright State (590) and host Cleveland State (591). The Grizzlies were the highest finishing Division I school in the field.
Malone's Justin Lower claimed medalist honors with his 141 (-1), one shot clear of his teammate Richie Schembechier. Sophomore Jakob Ziegler posted a 2-under-par 69 in the second round to finish in a tie for fifth place and three shots off the leader. Ziegler, a native of Berlin, Germany, posted his third straight top-five finish for the Golden Grizzlies.
Oakland will compete at the Bearcat Invitational Oct 11-12 in Hopkinsville, Ky. on the Links at Novadell.
