ROCHESTER, Mich. ???C One of the best high school golfers in the state of Michigan, Rob McNiff, is now going to be playing on the Oakland University men???s golf team, announced first-year head coach Brian Costello on Tuesday. McNiff, a freshman transfer from Belmont University, came to OU at the beginning of the winter semester and will compete for the Golden Grizzlies this spring.
???Robby was one of the top golfers in the state of Michigan and that is why I recruited him so heavily,??? said Costello. ???He is going to make a strong contribution to this year???s team.???
McNiff, a native of Muskegon, Mich., led Mona Shores High School to the Division I state championship in 2005. He finished second that season with scores of 68 and 73. He tallied a seventh-place finish as a sophomore at the state championships, and was a three-time all-state honoree. McNiff was named to the All-State Super Team as a junior.
McNiff played in one golf tournament in the fall at Belmont University, in Nashville, Tenn. He finished in 64th place after posting scores of 89-74-79 for a three-day total of 242.
The Golden Grizzlies will open spring competition on Feb. 22 in a dual meet versus Austin Peay University in Hopkinsville, Tenn.
