INDIANAPOLIS – The Oakland men’s golf team was picked to finish second in the Horizon League preseason poll, announced the league office on Friday. The Golden Grizzlies earned 30 points overall after finishing runner-up last season at the Horizon League Championship.
Cleveland State was selected in the top spot with 42 points and six first-place votes. Wright State was voted to finish third with 26 points while Valparaiso placed fourth with 21 points. Northern Kentucky, in its second season in the league, finished fifth for the second straight year, while Detroit was selected sixth, Youngstown State seventh and Green Bay picked eighth.
The Golden Grizzlies begin the spring season under first year head coach Nick Pumford who took over the program in June 2016.
“It’s great to be voted as one of the favorites in our league,” Pumford said. “We’ve had great practices this winter and our guys are excited to get the spring season started on a positive note. We know we still have a lot of work ahead of us.”
