Golden Grizzlies A Team Holds Tourney Lead Through 36 Holes
Day One Results The Oakland University men's golf "A" team holds a one-stroke lead over Mid-Continent Conference foe IUPUI going into the second day of play at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational. Oakland recorded 319-298--617 in the 36 holes on Monday, while IUPUI posted 316-302--618. Oakland's Brian Stuard (So., Jackson/Napoleon HS) holds the individual lead after the first day of play shooting 72-76--148. Rounding off the top five for the OU "A" team were sophomore Dan Krause (Bloomfield Hills/Cranbrook HS) in a tie for 12th (84-72--156), senior Chris King (Walled Lake/Western HS) and junior Ryan Yelen (Grand Blanc/Goodrich HS) in a tie for 14th (King 81-76--157/Yelen 83-74--157) and senior Allen Mitchell (Clio/Clio HS) in a tie for 21st (83-76--159). The Oakland "B" team stands in fifth place overall in the seven-team field. Leading the way for the "B" team is freshman Rob Tate (Traverse City/West HS) who shot a 75-81--156 for a 12th-place tie. Freshman Jon Pauli (St. John's/St. John's HS) followed closely behind in 14th place after recording 79-78--157. Rounding off the "B" five were junior Matt Pullen (Grand Rapids/Thornapple-Kellogg HS) who finished in a tie for 28th (81-81--162), freshman Ryan Schultheiss (Bay City/Western HS) who finished in a tie for 31st (84-80--164), sophomore John Francisco (Troy/Athens HS) who finished 42nd (85-86--171) and senior Ian Hodges (Calumet/Calumet HS) who finished 43rd (85-89--174). The Golden Grizzlies will continue play in the 2002 Golden Grizzlies Invitational on Tuesday, October 8 at 8 a.m.
