Freshman Jakob Ziegler has been named OU Student-Athlete of the Week after winning his first-ever collegiate tournament at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate on Oct. 19-20. Ziegler, a native of Berlin, Germany, finished the tournament with an overall score of 208 (-8) to win by one shot.
Ziegler guided the Golden Grizzlies to a third-place finish at the tournament as Oakland finished with an even-par score of 864. He finished the second round with a 6-under-par 66, the second lowest score in school history.
His 208 score was the second-best in school history and he became the first player since Jon Pauli in 2006 to shoot three consecutive rounds of par or better. Ziegler was also the first tournament champion since Frank McAuliffe in 2006 at the Butler Fall Invitational.
