ROCHESTER, Mich. - Nyal Higgins scored his first goal of the season off an assist from Nick Strack as the Oakland men's soccer team battled but came up short against No. 24 Western Michigan in the home opener on Wednesday night.

After a scoreless first half, Higgins' equalizer drew the Golden Grizzlies even at 1-1 just two minutes after WMU's Brandon Bye put the Broncos on the board in the 51st minute.

However, Bye again proved to be the difference scoring the game-winner in the 62nd minute keeping WMU unbeaten on the season.

Oakland resumes Horizon League play against new conference member IUPUI on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m.
