MEN'S SOCCER ADDS THREE NEWCOMERS FOR 2018 SEASON
Feb. 8, 2018

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Luke Morrell, Michael Teller and Cameron Wilde have been added to the Oakland men's soccer team as a part of the 2018 recruiting class on National Signing Day, announced head coach Eric Pogue.

LUKE MORRELL - D
Freshman
Plainwell, Mich.
Plainwell/Kalamazoo Kingdom

Highlights:
▪ First-Team All-State selection
▪ Scored 72 career goals with 21 assists leading Plainfield to four consecutive district titles
▪ Named Kalamazoo Gazette Dream Team Player of the Year
▪ Led Kingdom to first National Championship in club history in 2014

Coach Pogue on Morrell: "Luke Morrell, first and foremost is a great young man and extremely versatile player with a lot of the intangibles we were looking for in this recruiting class. As an All-State soccer player, All-State football player and All-League basketball player at Plainwell, we are obviously getting a tremendous athlete with a huge upside. Being coached in soccer through his youth at Kalamazoo Kingdom by a friend and former teammate of mine, Chad Wiseman (current WMU head men's soccer coach), I know Luke comes to us understanding the demands and what is takes to play at the NCAA Division I level and we think once he focuses 100% on just soccer, his potential is limitless."

Why Morrell chose Oakland: "Choosing to play soccer at Oakland wasn't a very hard decision for me because of the great coaching staff and amazing facilities. The soccer program has also been a very strong and competitive program. Academics was also an important factor in my decision and Oakland has a very excellent business school which is the major I am planning to pursue."

MICHAEL TELLER - MF/D
Freshman
Lake Orion, Mich.
Lake Orion/Vardar DA

Highlights:
▪ Helped lead Vardar to 2018 State Cup and National Championship

Coach Pogue on Teller: "Michael Teller was a must have for us in this recruiting class. He is someone we have known and have been keeping close tabs on as a top player in the Vardar Academy for a number of years. Michael is a great leader, a tremendously hard worker, talented on and off the ball and has the versatility to play anywhere across our backline, as well as in the center of midfield. He has always been a model of consistency and steadiness in his play and demeanor and we expect big things from Michael over his time at Oakland."

Why Teller chose Oakland: "The reason I chose Oakland University was due to the outstanding soccer program as well as the world-class education opportunities. Knowing many of the current players and coaching staff and the close proximity to home were other factors on my decision to come."

CAMERON WILDE - MF
Freshman
Shelby Township, Mich.
Lutheran North/Vardar DA

Highlights:
▪ Two-time All-State, All-Region, All-District, All-Catholic League, Lutheran All-American section in 2015 and 2016
▪ Finished high school with 60 goals leading Lutheran North to District Title in 2015
▪ Helped Nationals Union Black to State Cup Finals with 15 goals and nine assists

Coach Pogue on Wilde: "Cameron is a great signing for us as he is someone we initially saw play at our high school team camp way back when he was just a freshman for Lutheran High in 2014 where he lit up the field. Although short in height, Cameron makes up for it with his speed, strength, quickness, toughness, and heart to impact the game on both sides of the ball. As a left footed player, we believe he has the versatility and dynamic ability to allow him to play anywhere up the left side of the field, as well as attacking center midfield. Cameron has a great soccer background from his time with the Nationals and now with the Vardar Academy and we are excited for his future here with the Black & Gold."

Why Wilde chose Oakland: "I chose Oakland because of their outstanding health science program. The soccer team and the coaching staff also embodies the same principles as my past teams have with Nationals, Vardar Academy and LHN. Oakland is a program I have grown up a fan of watching and playing at their amazing soccer facilities ever since I was a kid along with participating in their summer camps to now with Vardar academy."
