College Soccer News Top Assistant Coaches 2015

ROCHESTER, Mich.
- Oakland men’s soccer Associate Head Coach Stephen Gorton was named one of the nation’s top assistant coaches by College Soccer News. The online publication annually seeks to recognize assistant coaches across the country who are excelling at their work and listed Gorton as one of 12 difference makers who are making an impact.

"Since arriving to Oakland in 2011, Stephen has helped assist Oakland to three league championships and two NCAA tournament appearances in the last three years including back to back Horizon League titles in 2014 and 2015,” said head coach Eric Pogue. "He has played an instrumental role in the success of our program at all levels program management including team training, recruiting, scouting, camp director, scheduling, fundraising and equipment."

Gorton was named associate head coach prior to the 2015 season helping guide Oakland to a 19-6-6 conference record, 19-9-6 home mark along with improving the team’s RPI 119 spots {2011 (187), 2012 (112), 2013 (108), 2014 (72), 2015 (65)} since 2011. As recruiting coordinator, Gorton also helped Oakland’s 2016 class receive a College Soccer News 4-star rating.
