ROCHESTER, Mich. - Head coach Eric Pogue announced the 2018 Oakland men’s soccer schedule which includes 10 home matches highlighted by showdowns against two-time defending Horizon League Tournament champion UIC (Sept. 8), defending Big Ten regular season champion Michigan (Oct. 3), Northern Kentucky on homecoming (Oct. 6) and 2017 regular season league champion Green Bay (Nov. 2) on Senior Day.
Oakland opens the season with exhibitions at Butler (Aug. 13), who advanced to the third round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament finishing 12th in United Soccer Coaches top-25 poll, and at home against Saginaw Valley State (Aug. 18).
The Golden Grizzlies will host Western Illinois (Aug. 24) at the Oakland Soccer Field for the home opener followed by the first of 10 total road matches beginning at Marshall (Aug. 27) followed by a pair of games in the Windy City at the Hampton Inn at Loyola Chicago Classic against DePaul (Aug. 31) and Loyola (Sept. 2).
After the league opener against UIC, Oakland travels to instate rival Michigan State (Sept. 10) who advanced to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight finishing sixth in the top-25 poll. The Golden Grizzlies and arch-rival Detroit Mercy will square off in the annual Metro Series match driven by Trinity Transportation (Sept. 15) in which Oakland is 3-0-1 against the Titans in Metro Series matches.
Oakland plays its final instate non-conference match at Western Michigan (Oct. 9). The Broncos are coming off a 17-4-1 season winning the Mid-American Conference regular season title and advancing to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament to finish ninth in the top-25 poll.
The Golden Grizzlies close out the regular season with three home matches against Wright State (Oct. 13), Bradley (Oct. 23) and Green Bay (Nov. 2) and two road games at Milwaukee (Oct. 20) and Cleveland State (Oct. 27).
