KANSAS CITY, Kan.The Oakland men's soccer team is sixth in the NSCAA Midwest Regional Rankings, which were released on Monday afternoon. The Golden Grizzlies opened the season with a 3-0 win over New Hampshire.
"As I've said before, our team doesn't put too much stock in rankings, especially this early in the season," said head coach Eric Pogue. "Having said that, it is nice for the team to be recognized by the NSCAA as a top team in the Midwest, but we know we have a tough road ahead of us."
Oakland's early win over New Hampshire looked even better on Sunday, when the Wildcats managed to shutout Michigan State 1-0.
"We had a solid start with the win over a tough UNH team that turned around and beat Michigan State," added Pogue. "We have a tough challenging week ahead of us and our matches against Cleveland State and Vermont are our sole focus leading into the weekend."
Oakland hosts Cleveland State on Friday at the OU Soccer Field at 5:30 p.m. The Golden Grizzlies host Vermont on Sunday at 1 p.m.
