ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland men’s soccer team (4-4, 0-1 HL) hosts Cincinnati (5-4, 1-0 AAC) in a non-conference match on Wednesday, Sept 30 at 5 p.m. as a part of a doubleheader with the women’s team who plays arch-rival University of Detroit Mercy at 7:30 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live from the Oakland Soccer Field with the voice of the Golden Grizzlies Neal Ruhl on the call.
MEN’S SOCCER TO HOST GOLF SCRAMBLE: Prior to the match against Cincinnati, the men’s soccer team will also be hosting its annual golf scramble on Wednesday, Sept. 30 beginning at 9 a.m. at Oakland’s R&S Sharf Golf Course. A LOOK AT THE BEARCATS: Cincinnati enters the match against Oakland after upsetting No. 17 Temple 3-2 (Sept. 26) for it first American Athletic Conference (AAC) win of the season. Senior midfielder Alejandro Garcia leads the Bearcats in points (13) and goals (6) which also rank 12th and 21st nationally. Cincy also has a 0-2 mark on the road.
BEN BREAKS OUT: Gerald Ben has scored in two consecutive games. He delivered his first goal of the season with a penalty kick against U-M (Sept. 23) followed by the game-winner against Belmont (Sept. 26) giving the Golden Grizzlies their first conference win of the season.
DUDLEY DELIVERS: Matt Dudley scored his first goal of the season against Belmont also hitting the cross bar three times.
TARNEY BLANKS BELMONT: Eliott Tarney recorded his third career shutout (second this season) making two saves at Belmont. He also anchored the backline to a 2-0 win at Dayton (Sept. 12). Tarney won his first start of the season in Oakland’s historic win over Navy (Sept 4).
NATIONAL AND CONFERENCE RANKINGS: Austin Ricci is ranked 27th nationally in game-winning goals (2). He also ranks second in the Horizon League in goals (4) and points (9).
