DETROIT - Taylor Jones scored 17 of her game-high 20 points in the second half while Cierra Bond poured in 19 points on 5-of-10 shooting from behind the arc with six rebounds, four assists and four steals as No. 7 seed Oakland won the program's first Horizon League Tournament game with a convincing 80-46 victory over No. 10 seed UIC during first round Motor City Madness action on Friday.
Oakland put the clamps down defensively scoring 41 points off 25 UIC turnovers while holding the Flames to only 27 points over the first three quarters. Offensively, the Golden Grizzlies opened the game on a 13-2 run and never looked back.
Oakland will play No. 2 seed IUPUI in the quarterfinals on Saturday, Mar. 3 at 12 p.m.
