ROCHESTER, Mich. - Bethany Watterworthscored 17 points to lead four players in double-figures for the Oakland women's basketball team (2-1) in a 74-30 win over Rochester College (4-4) at the Athletics Center O'rena on Thursday. The Golden Grizzlies defense held the Warriors to 25.6 percent shooting, while OU hit 55.2 percent from the field.

"This was a good overall effort by our team," said associate head coach Eric Stephan. "We played very unselfish basketball tonight, which was nice to see. Defensively, we were strong as we controlled the glass and held them to a very low shooting percentage."

Victoria Lipscomb scored 11 points, while Brittany Carnago and Zakiya Minifee added 10 each. All 11 players scored and had a rebound for the Golden Grizzlies in the win.

Oakland started the game on a 9-0 run, which Watterworth pushed to 16 (19-3) with a layup less than seven minutes in. She scored 11 in the first half, reaching double-digits by halftime for the third consecutive game.

Sam Tomaschko hit a 3-pointer to help Rochester cut the lead to 14 (26-12) with 3:55 remaining in the half. However, Oakland responded with a 12-3 run to end the half, and led 38-15 at the intermission.

Oakland opened the second half on a 14-0 run, pushing the lead to 37 points on a jumper by Lipsomb. The Warriors remained at arm's length the rest of the way, before a 7-0 run to end the game, gave OU its largest lead of 44-points.

The Oakland defense limited the Warriors to just 15 points in each half. Minifee had five of the Golden Grizzlies' 15 steals and OU scored 28 points from 25 RC turnovers.

Tomaschko led the Warriors, with 13 points, two blocks and a game-high nine rebounds. Ke'ala Ka'aikala added nine points off the bench for RC, while Ka'imana Ka'aikala had five.

The Golden Grizzlies hit the glass for a 41-24 rebounding advantage, with four players collecting five rebounds each. OU also scored 50 points in the paint for the second consecutive game. Watterworth had a game-high six-assists, as Oakland had 18 assists on 32 baskets.

"We just need to continue to get better as a team," added Stephan. "We took a big step forward with our rebounding tonight. We will continue to get better as we gain more familiarity on the court, which is a key for us going forward."

Oakland is back in action on Tuesday, hosting Providence at the O'rena at 6:30 p.m. Last season, the Golden Grizzlies lost to the Fryars by one point on the road.
