ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland women's basketball team closes out the home schedule slate with a pair of games against IUPUI and UIC. The Golden Grizzlies and Jaguars tip off on Thursday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. for Faculty Appreciation Night sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance followed by an afternoon game against the Flames on Senior Day Saturday, Feb. 17 at 3 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live from the Blacktop at the O'rena on ESPN3 with Brad Golder (play-by-play) and Reggie Butler (analyst) on the call.
Series History: Oakland leads the all-time series against new Horizon League and former Summit League member IUPUI 24-13 after an 80-64 setback against the Jaguars on Jan. 13. Oakland also leads the all-time mark over UIC at 6-5 after the Golden Grizzlies out lasted the Flames, 67-63, on Jan. 11.
Seniors Honored: Prior to the UIC game, the women's basketball team will honor seniors Cierra Bond, Taylor Gleason, Sha'Keya Graves, Leah Somerfield and Korrin Taylor for their hard work and dedication to the program.
Sizzling Somerfield: Over the last five games, Somerfield has been a force on both sides of the floor. Offensively, she is averaging 17.0 ppg while shooting 47.6 percent from the field and 41 percent from behind the arc. Defensively, she has hauled in 9.6 rebounds per game with 10 steals and seven blocks.
Lipscomb Homecoming Victoria Lipscomb returns to Oakland as an assistant coach for IUPUI. Lipscomb was a four-year letter winner and three-year captain at Oakland from 2009 to 2014 ranking seventh in program history in assists (363) and 11th in steals (192). Additionally, she was a five-time All-Academic selection (four in the Summit League, one in the Horizon League) and was the first women's basketball student-athlete to be selected to the Women's Basketball Caches Association (WBCA) "So You Want to be a Coach" Program in 2014 followed by Taylor Gleason who was recently selected in January.
