ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland women’s basketball team (14-10, 6-7) concludes the regular season road slate with two league games beginning at Wright State on Thursday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. followed by Northern Kentucky on Sunday, Feb. 21 at 1 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
RAIDER RUNDOWN: Wright State (14-9, 9-3) sits second behind Green Bay. The Raiders lead the league in scoring (77.9 ppg) and rebounding margin (+7.1) while ranking fourth in field goal percentage (42.0). WSU is led by senior guard and 2013-14 HL Player of the Year Kim Demmings who leads the league in scoring (20.4 ppg).
NKU BREAKDOWN: Northern Kentucky (14-9, 6-6) sits fifth in the league standings one game ahead of Oakland. As a team, the Norse lead the league in 3-point percentage (36.1) and free throw percentage (78.5) while ranking third in scoring (73.6 ppg). Individually, NKU is led by senior guard Christine Roush who leads the league in free throw percentage (91.0) and ranks fourth in scoring (16.0) and field goal percentage (56.5).
SERIES HISTORY: Wright States holds a 6-1 advantage over the Golden Grizzlies winning the last six consecutive meetings including a 77-72 decision at the O’rena (Jan. 16). Oakland leads the all-time series 5-3 over Northern Kentucky with the Norse winning the last meeting, 75-71, (Jan. 14).
SIX AND COUNTING: Taylor Jones was named Horizon League Freshman of the Week for a league-best sixth time this season, announced the league office on Monday Jones averaged 17.0 points shooting 11-for-19 (58 %) from the field and 11-for-15 (73%) at the free throw line helping Oakland to a pair of league wins over Valparaiso and UIC. Jones scored 20 points tying a career-high with five steals against the Crusaders followed by 18 points against the Flames.
EMBRACE THE MADNESS: Olivia Nash was named College Sports Madness Horizon League Player of the Week averaging 21.5 points going a perfect 9-for-9 from the charity stripe. She posted a game-high 25 points against Valpo shooting 9-of-16 from the field and followed with 18 points, nine rebounds and a career-high four steals against UIC.
HUGE SPARK OFF THE BENCH: Korrin Taylor provided a spark off the bench posting a career-high in points (13), free throws made (9) and rebounds (4) to lead Oakland over visiting UIC, 78-73, at the annual Pink Game (Feb. 13).
BLOCK PARTY: Sinclair Russell tied her career-high with five blocks three times this season at CSU (2/16), YSU (2/4) and Valpo (1/9) She has 16 blocks over the last four games and ranks third in the league in blocked shots (1.8 bpg).
FILLING IT UP: Oakland leads the league in field goal percentage (43.4%) and ranks second in scoring offense (76.0 ppg) which also rank 45th and 21tst in the nation respectively. Individually, Nash also ranks fourth in the league and 18th nationally in field goal percentage (56.9).
POPKEY DROPPING DIMES: Elena Popkey leads the league in assists (5.4 apg) and currently sits in second place all-time in program history with 459 career assist. She also third tops in assists/turnover ratio (2.0).
