WOMEN’S BASKETBALL HOLDS FIRST PRACTICE FOR 2017-18 SEASON

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland women’s basketball team reported for its first official practice on Monday afternoon in preparation for the 2017-18 season. The Golden Grizzlies return seniors Cierra Bond, Taylor Gleason, Sha’Keya Graves, Leah Somerfield and Korrin Taylor along with Horizon League Sixth Player of the Year Taylor Jones who led the team in scoring last season (15.3 ppg).

Oakland also returns a core group of players along with five newcomers looking to build on last season’s team that finished in a third-place tie with a 12-6 league record which marked the first time the Golden Grizzlies won 12 Horizon League games since joining the conference in the 2013-14 season. It also was the first time Oakland won 12 conference games since going 14-4 in the Summit League in 2009-10.

The Golden Grizzlies open the season against Illinois State on Saturday, Nov. 11. at 1 p.m. on the Blacktop at the O’rena.
