ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland women's basketball team opens Horizon League play with a pair of games at Cleveland State and Youngstown State. The Golden Grizzlies and Vikings tip off on Thursday, Dec. 28 at 7 p.m. followed by YSU on Saturday, Dec. 30 at 1 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live from the Wolstein Center and Beeghly Center respectively on ESPN3.
Series History: Oakland leads the all-time series against Cleveland State 5-4 after splitting a pair of games last season. The Vikings were picked to finish sixth in the league preseason poll.
The Golden Grizzlies swept the season series against Youngstown State last season tying the all-time mark at 9-9 between the two schools. The Penguins were picked to finish eighth in the preseason poll.
Horizon League Milestone: Heading into Horizon League play this season, Oakland looks to improve on a successful 2016-17 campaign. Last season, Oakland finished in a third-place tie with a 12-6 league record which marked the first time the Golden Grizzlies won 12 Horizon League games since joining the conference in the 2013-14 season. It also was the first time Oakland won 12 conference games since going 14-4 in the Summit League in 2009-10.
Vegas Star: Sha'Keya Graves leads the team in scoring (14.9 ppg) which is tied for seventh in the Horizon League. She was recently named to the All-Tournament Team after leading Oakland to a pair of wins over Old Dominion and Arkansas at Pine Bluff during the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic.
