YORKTOWN, Ind. - Kassandra Komma posted a 5-over-par score of 77 and is currently in a tie for fifth place to lead the Oakland women's golf team on day one of the Cardinal Classic on Saturday at The Players Club. The Golden Grizzlies shot 323 (+35) and are in sixth place.

"A cold morning turning sunny then with five to six holes to go, the wind started blowing and gusting over 25 miles-per-hour," said OU coach Russ Cunningham. "Add that with all the rain last night and the course played totally different today than in the practice round. A couple players adjusted pretty well and it was good to see Kassy (Kassandra Komma) hold it together, even with bogies on 2 of 3 par 5 holes. As a team we did not make one birdie that round, so hopefully that number goes up tomorrow."

Brandi Studer and Marianna Stepp each carded scores of 81 and are in a tie for 25th place after the first day of competition. Alanna Gerber finished her 18 holes with a score of 84, while Jackie Richert tallied an 87 in her first collegiate round for the Golden Grizzlies.

Tournament host Ball State took the first-round lead with a team score of 309 (+21) and the Cardinals lead Marshall by just one shot. MU's Korakot Simsiriwong leads the tournament after shooting an even-par 72.

The final round will begin tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
