INDIANAPOLIS -- For the second consecutive season the Oakland women’s golf team was picked to win the Horizon League in the conference's preseason poll, announced by the league office Friday.
”We are excited to be voted as the preseason favorites in a league with so many great teams and competitors," said head coach Alyssa Gaudio. "We know we have a lot of hard work ahead of us and are excited that the spring season is here.”
Oakland won its first-ever conference title last year and played in the NCAA Shoal Creek Regional finishing 17th. Morgan Smith returns for her senior season after being an All-Horizon League Second Team selection a year ago. Also returning are Fiona Schmidt and Maddelyn Zack who finished in the top-10 at last year’s league championship. Gaudio, the reigning Horizon League Coach of the Year, enters her third season at the helm of the program.
The spring season will continue for the Golden Grizzlies as they travel to Sorrento, Fla. For the Spring Break Tri-Meet hosted by Cleveland State with Youngstown State Feb. 20-21.
