ROCHESTER, Mich. -- The Oakland women’s golf team will look to defend its Horizon League title at the 2017 golf championships April 23-25 at the Mission Inn Resort Las Colinas Course in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. Sunday, April 23 through Tuesday, April 25. The three-day tournament will begin each day at 7:30 a.m. with 18 holes being played per day.
Oakland is coming off a fourth-place finish at the Dolores Black Falcon Invite April 8-9 that saw Fiona Schmidt shoot a final round of 72 (E) to finish runner-up with a two-day score of 148 (+4). Schmidt was named league golfer of the week for her performance.
Maddelyn Zack was named to the Horizon League Academic All-League Team on April 19 after recording four top-10 finishes on the season, while also carrying a 3.85 grade-point average. She is the first Oakland women's golfer to earn the honor since 2014.
The Golden Grizzlies have recorded the lowest team round of the season among league teams at 293, a school record. They currently lead the conference in team scoring average by nearly four strokes (309.94). Oakland captured its first league title in program history last season by three strokes over Northern Kentucky.
