OU Women's Golf in Fifth After First Round
The Oakland University women's golf team finished the first round of play at the Lady Falcon Invitational in fifth place Saturday, September 22. The Golden Grizzlies recorded a 326 on the par 72, 5,861 yard Forrest Creason Golf Course. The Lady Falcon Invite is hosted by Bowling Green State University. The Golden Grizzlies had three golfers finish in the top 20 led by senior Connie Apalit (Pittsburg, CA/Pittsburg HS) who recorded a first round 75 to lead the Golden Grizzlies and stands in a tie for fourth place going into Sunday's final round. Following right behind Apalit was freshman Mara Mazzoni (Livonia/Stevenson HS) and junior Emily Minnich (Geneva, IN/South Adams HS) in a tie for eighth place after shooting 77s in the first round. Rounding off the OU golfers were sophomore Katherine Goodvich (Rochester/Bishop Foley HS) and junior Jenny Quinn (Bloomfield Hills/Lahser HS) in 53rd and 54th places, respectively. Goodvich recorded a 97 in the first round and Quinn finished with a 98. The Golden Grizzlies will play their second round at the Lady Falcon Invitational on Sunday, September 23.
