ROCHESTER, Mich.-Meghan Reynolds scored twice, including the match-winner as Oakland (2-1-1) pulled out a 3-2 win over Detroit (2-3) in overtime, Friday at the OU Soccer Field. The Golden Grizzlies have scored 16 goals in four matches this season.
"We jumped out to a 2-0 lead and looked great early," said head coach Nick O'Shea. "Detroit was able to get back into the game, but Meghan [Reynolds] came through with flying colors as soon as the overtime hit."
Reynolds stole the ball from between two defenders in the fifth minute of overtime and scored a breakaway goal to clinch the golden-goal victory for Oakland. It was the second goal of the match for Reynolds who scored in the 14th minute from Alyssa Fulton's cross.
The Golden Grizzlies grabbed a 2-0 lead just 15 minutes into the game, after Julianne Boyle scored her first goal of the season on a long-range shot from outside the 18-yard area. Oakland finished with a 14-13 edge in shots and a 7-5 advantage in shots in goal.
Detroit got back into the match through two goals from Nina Carter. The second goal came in the 86th minute of the match after Oakland failed to clear the ball defensively.
Shannon Coley made three saves for Oakland in her first appearance of the season. Martha Dunbar made her season debut for Detroit and recorded four saves.
Oakland is off until Wednesday, when the team hosts Michigan State at the OU Soccer Field at 7 p.m.
