ROCHESTER, Mich. -- Meghan Reynolds scored the match-winning goal as Oakland (6-3-3, 3-0) earned a 1-0 win over South Dakota State (2-9-1, 0-3) on Sunday at the OU Soccer Field. The Golden Grizzlies move into a tie at the top of The Summit League standings with the win.
"We played well and went up 1-0, but they started fighting and putting pressure on us," said head coach Nick O'Shea. "[SDSU] is a good team and they're going to put a lot of pressure on you, but fortunately we limited them to very few chances."
Reynolds scored the winning goal less than 15 minutes into the match. Kara Weber played a long ball out of the back over the top of the SDSU defense for Reynolds, who collected the ball and broke in towards goal before lifting a shot into the top left corner of the goal.
Oakland outshot SDSU 5-2 in the first half and did not allow a shot on goal. In the second half, OU was content to hold the lead and absorbed pressure from the Jackrabbits, which allowing the guests to earn 9-6 edge in total shots.
The best chances for the Jacks came in the final two minutes, as a shot from Christa Nyblom forced a diving save from Shannon Coley in the 89th minute. SDSU followed up with a header in the 90th minute that went just left of the goal.
"[SDSU] created a few chances, right near the end," added O'Shea. "Shannon did a great job to and helped us go to 3-0 in The Summit League."
Coley finished with three saves, all in the second half, to earn the clean sheet. The 11th shutout of her career, Coley moves into the top ten in The Summit League for career shutouts.
After sweeping the weekend Summit League series at home, Oakland will hit the road for a match at Kansas City on Friday at 5 p.m.
