Oakland's Rapp Earns Spot on Norwegian Olympic Soccer Team
Oakland University senior midfielder Anita Rapp (Lillehammer, Norway) has secured a spot on the 2000 Norwegian Summer Olympic team. The Norwegian team will open with Team USA on September 14 and will face Nigeria September 17 and China September 21. Rapp, a member of the Norwegian team that finished fourth in the 1999 World Cup Games, enters her senior year as a Golden Grizzly with 45 career games, 25 goals, 26 assists, 76 points and seven game-winning goals. Last season she was named Co-Player of the Year in the Mid-Continent Conference and earned first team all-Region and all-Conference honors. Rapp, with a 3.9 grade point average in political science and German, was named to the GTE CoSIDA Academic All-American District IV team in 1999. "It's great to have a player on our team with that caliber," Oakland head coach Nick O'Shea said. "It has been fun watching her grow as a player over the past three years. Three years ago she wasn't even involved with the national team and now she is vying for a starting spot on the Olympic squad."
