ROCHESTER, Mich. - Eight players from the Oakland women's soccer team earned All-Summit League honors, announced by the league office at the tournament banquet on Friday. Four players, Julianne Boyle, Meghan Reynolds, Serena San Cartier and Kara Weber each earned All-Summit League first team honors.
"We are very excited for all the players that have received recognition," said Oakland head coach Nick O'Shea. "They have worked hard all year, through both the non-league and league schedule. It's great to see them recognized and they are very deserving."
Three of the OU first-team selections are sophomores. Reynolds, a forward from Aurora, Ontario, Canada, led Oakland in scoring this season with six goals. San Cartier, a forward from Sudbuy, Ontario, led Oakland with 15 points this season, scoring five goals and dishing out five assists. Boyle, a midfielder from Lake Orion, Mich., finished the year with four assists and a goal.
Weber, a junior defender from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, played in all 19 matches for Oakland. In addition to anchoring the middle of the OU defense she also came forward to record a goal and an assist. DeLuca, a junior midfielder from Clinton Township, Mich.,finished the year tied for third in The Summit League with five assists and also added two goals.
Youth was a big part of the OU team and it showed with three freshman taking all-league honors. Kellermann, a striker from Elmvale, Ontario, scored five goals in her first season. Ring, a midfielder from Clawson, Mich., had three assists for OU, playing in 14 matches. Stencel, a defender from Bloomfield Hills, Mich., saw action in 17 matches in the center of the defense for Oakland.
"Soccer is a team game and having a number of talented teammates has certainly allowed these players to flourish at an elite level," added O'Shea. "This is a very competitive league and looking at the other award winners it is clear that team success is important to creating individual award winners."
