OAKLAND EDGED IN EXTRA INNINGS AT DETROIT MERCY, 2-1

DETROIT - Brittney Miller hit the go-ahead single in the top of the seventh inning giving Oakland (17-18, 10-8 HL) a 1-0 lead but it was not enough as the Golden Grizzlies were edged in walk-off fashion at Detroit Mercy, 2-1, in eight innings during the Metro Series driven by Trinity Transportation finale on Wednesday afternoon at Buysse Ballpark.

Jamie Squires hit 2-for-4 with a run while Abbey Walewski and Rachel Zerona each added a hit.

Erin Kownacki tossed 6.1 innings of work and was just two outs away from the win before UDM (11-27, 8-5 HL) tied the game at 1-1 with a base hit in the bottom of the seventh. Haley Zemmer entered the game in relief holding the Titans at bay getting the final two outs while stranding a runner on third.

Mikayela Marciniak reach on an error in the top of the eight and eventually advanced to third on a wild pitch and another error but Oakland could not get the key hit to bring her home.

UDM got a walk-off single Alyssa James in bottom of the eighth to seal the win.
