ROCHESTER, Mich. - Brittney Miller and Jamie Squires each recorded three hits as Oakland (20-21) was edged by in-state rival Eastern Michigan, 3-1 and 4-2, in doubleheader action on Wednesday at the Oakland Softball Field.
Miller went 3-for-4 with a double while Squires hit 2-for-3 as Oakland recorded nine hits in game one but could not get runs across in key situations leaving 13 runners on base.
Kaley Waalkes turned in a solid effort in game two going the distance for her second complete game of the season with four strikeouts while allowing only two earned runs.
Trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the seventh, Danielle Szajna reached on a fielder's choice to score pinch runner Lydia Peplinski. Rachel Zerona followed with a RBI single to score Squires cutting the lead in half at 4-2. However, EMU's Nicole Miranda forced a fly out to end the game with the bases loaded.
The Golden Grizzlies conclude the regular season against UIC at the Oakland Softball Field with a doubleheader on Senior Day Saturday, May 6 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. followed by the series finale on Sunday, May 7 at noon.
