2018 NFCA All-Region Recipients
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Oakland's Madison Jones and Haley Zemmer have been named to the 2018 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Great Lakes All-Region Third Team announced by the organization Thursday. The two are the first Oakland players since 2006 to earn NFCA honors
Jones, a Romeo, Mich. native, Started in 49 games as a true freshmen at third base and led the Horizon League in slugging percentage at .761, home runs at 13, and triples with six. Her slugging percentage,13 homers and and total bases (118) are both Oakland single season records. She finished the regular season ranking inside the Horizon League's top-10 in nine statistical categories and the NCAA's top-50 in triples (21st), triples per game (22nd) and slugging percentage (48th).
Zemmer, a senior from Troy, Mich., is a three-time All-Horizon League recipient after appearing in 32 games, making 28 starts with a career best 16-9 record. She recorded a 2.43 earned-run average (ERA) in 161.1 innings pitched and her 16 wins was tied for the best in the Horizon League and ranks as the fourth most in a single season in Oakland's history while her ERA ranked second among league pitchers.
The right-hander recorded 106 strikeouts and held opponents to just a .241 batting average while registering 13 complete games. On two occasions she struck out 10 batters, a career high, and good for fourth best in a game this season among conference pitchers.
Zemmer dominated in league play with a 9-3 record with just a 1.42 ERA in 14 appearances, only allowing eight walks.
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to the 2018 NFCA Division I All-American squads.
The 2018 NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced at approximately 5 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, May 30, via NFCA.org.
