OAKLAND SOFTBALL 2017 SEASON REVIEW

ROCHESTER, Mich. –
The 2017 Oakland softball team completed a successful campaign under the direction of head coach Connie Miner.

TEAM HIGHLIGHTS:
▪ Oakland qualified for the Horizon League Tournament for the second time in three seasons (Last 2015) ▪ Had the best start in program history going 4-1
▪ Completed series sweep at defending Horizon League Champion Valparaiso (Apr. 28-29)

2017 season records set (program ranking):
▪ 20 Wins (8th), 13 Conference wins (4th).

INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS:
▪ Kownacki Finished career ranked all-time in program history…Second in wins (41) and complete games (29), third in strikeouts (383), shutouts (12), games started (87) and innings pitched (541.2), fourth in ERA (2.52) and fifth in appearances (102)
▪ She Lead the team in ERA with 1.67 which is a fourth-best single-season program mark
▪ Squires set program single-season marks ranking eighth in slugging percentage (.608) and 10th in on base percentage (.432)
▪ Coach Miner concluded her career ranked second in program history in wins (83)

INDIVIDUAL AWARDS:
In season:
▪ Horizon League Player of the Week: Kelsie Swanson (Apr. 17)
▪ Horizon League Pitcher of Week: Kownacki (Feb. 20 & 27)
▪ College Sports Madness Horizon League Softball Player of the Week: Squires (May 3)

Post season:
▪ Four student-athletes garnered Horizon League postseason honors:
Squires - Co-Freshman of the Year, All-League First Team, All-Freshman Team Honors
Lyndsay Hill - All-Horizon League First Team, Horizon League All-Academic Team
Erin Kownacki - All-Horizon League Second Team
Mikayela Marciniak - All-Horizon League Second Team, Horizon League All-Academic Team
