ROCHESTER, Mich. -- Oakland head softball coach Lauren Cognigni announced the hiring of assistant coach Tenaya Tucker on Wednesday.

”I'm extremely excited to welcome Tenaya to our coaching staff,” said Cognigni. “Her passion for teaching the game is tremendous and her ability to get through to student-athletes is going to help our players excel both on and off of the field. With her experience and knowledge of the game, she's going to be a great asset to our program.”

Tucker had a standout career at UNC Charlotte from 2008-11 where she was a two-time First Team All-Mid Atlantic Region selection, leading the 49ers in batting average, hits, home runs and RBIs as a senior. She still holds the single-season slugging percentage record (.712) and is the career leader in putouts (1,342). Her 121 total bases in the 2011 season still stands as a 49ers single-season record.

A native of Antelope, Calif., Tucker played professionally in Europe for DES Caserta, earning the Italian Professional Softball League Championship MVP in 2012. After her playing career she was named the assistant coach at Delaware where she coached for two seasons.
