BABSON PARK, Fla.-- Caitlin Young and Brittany Baxter picked up singles wins, as the Oakland women's tennis team (0-6) fell, 5-2, to Webber International (3-1) on Monday at the WIU Tennis Complex. It was the first of a two-match Spring Break road trip for the Golden Grizzlies.

"Caitlin and Brittany both had great matches," said head tennis coach Heather Redshaw. "We had some close matches, but were really impacted by the loss of Karen Karoub from lineup."

Oakland battled to the final point in every singles match with both Young and Baxter pulling out three-set wins. Young rallied from a set down to win her No. 1 singles match 1-6, 6-2, 6-3. Baxter also rallied from a set down and fought off key points late in the second set for a 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory at No. 4 singles.

Baxter and Demi Georgakopoulos partnered to win 8-6 at No. 2 singles, but it wasn't enough to salvage the doubles point as Webber International won the other two singles matches 8-2.

Grace Keating also played a three-set match winning the second set of her match at No. 2 singles before falling 6-0, 4-6, 6-2. Caryn Kimmerl lost by the exact same score line at No. 5 singles. Georgakopoulos lost in straight-sets 6-2, 6-3 and Abbey Bates fell 6-0, 6-0 in her first action with the OU team.

The Golden Grizzlies played without Karen Karoub who had played four matches at No. 2 singles this season, but was injured in the team's last road trip.

The Golden Grizzlies wrap up their trip with a match at Florida Atlantic on Wednesday at noon.
