YPSILANTI, Mich. -- Emily Raidt and Juliana Guevara both forced third sets for Oakland (1-4) in a 7-0 loss at Eastern Michigan (5-6) on Saturday at the Chippewa Racquet Club. The Golden Grizzlies won points in each of the singles matches.
"We are battling against teams that have really had our number in the past" said Oakland head coach Heather Redshaw. "Every match we play we're getting better and taking a step in the right direction. Eastern Michigan is a really good team and we competed today."
After dropping her first set at No. 1 singles, Raidt rallied to win 6-4 in the second set. She fell just short in a deciding super-set tiebreaker and lost the match 6-0, 4-6, 10-8. Guevara won her second set 6-3, but eventually dropped the match 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
Despite losing the other singles matches in straight sets, OU managed to make each match a battle. Grace Keating went down 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6 singles. Cam Sabourin fell 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 5 spot. Karine Celis suffered a 6-2, 6-3 setback at No. 2 and Tamara Blum lost her No. 3 singles match 6-3, 6-3.
The Eagles grabbed an early advantage by winning all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. Sabourin and Keating had the closest match, falling 8-4 at No. 3 doubles. Blum and Raidt also challenged in an 8-3 loss at the No. 2 position. EMU won 8-0 at No. 1 doubles.
Oakland is back in action Sunday with a match at Cleveland State at 3 p.m.
