Oakland Picks Up First Tennis Win 4-3 over Youngstown State
Brittany Baxter picked up the match-clinching singles win.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Brittany Baxterhad the match-clinching singles victory to lead the Oakland women's tennis team (1-8) to a 4-3 win over Youngstown State (0-6) on Sunday at the Broadman Tennis Center. It was the first win of the year for the Golden Grizzlies.
"It was a great team win," said Oakland head coach Heather Redshaw.
Baxter came through with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Jennifer Moore at the No. 4 singles spot to claim the win for OU. Oakland won the doubles point and Youngstown forfeited the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches for a 3-0 lead before YSU won three singles matches to make it close.
Oakland claimed the doubles point 2-1. Grace Keating and Demi Georgakopoulos won 8-1 at the No. 2 doubles position and Caryn Kimmel and Abbey Bates won by default at No. 3 doubles. The Penguins No. 1 team of Marta Burak and Lauren Hankle beat Baxter and Caitlin Young8-3 at No. 1 doubles.
Keating played a close match at No. 3 singles, falling 6-1, 6-3. Young lost to Burak 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while Geogakopoulos fell 6-1, 6-0 to Hankle ad the No. 2 position.
The Golden Grizzlies will be back in action on March 17 with a home match against Detroit. The time and location for the match has not yet been set.
