FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Caitlin Young and Brittany Baxter won their No. 2 doubles match, as Oakland (1-13, 0-4) had a hard-fought loss, 7-0, to South Dakota (14-8, 4-4) in Summit League action on Saturday at Concordia High School. It was the final match of a four-match league cluster for both teams.
“We played well in doubles today and got a great win by Caitlin and Brittany,” said Oakland head coach Heather Redshaw. “Demi and Grace also played well and had a chance to win, but had some trouble closing it out the match.”
Oakland had a chance to win the doubles point, with Baxter and Young's 8-5 victory at the No. 2 doubles position. The doubles point came down to the No. 1 spot, where Demi Georgakopoulos and Grace Keating fell just short in a 9-7 loss.
The Coyotes took five of the six singles matches in straight sets, but Young battled to take hers to a third set. After winning the first set 6-2, Young eventually fell in a super-set tiebreaker 2-6, 6-1, 10-8. Baxter had a close match at No. 4 singles, losing 6-3, 6-2.
Oakland is back in action on Friday with a match at Wright State at 1 p.m.
