DAYTON, Ohio -- Juliana Guevara and Tamara Blum both won their singles flights at the Wright State Invitational on Sunday at Thomas Cloud Park. The Golden Grizzlies won two of the four singles flights at the tournament.
"It was a good weekend for Oakland tennis," said head coach Heather Redshaw. "Winning the finals in two of the four singles flights is definitely a positive that this team can build on going forward."
Blum outlasted Shelby Hullett from IUPUI 6-3, 6-4 to win the Singles B flight at the tournament. Guevara won the Singles D flight with a straight-sets victory, 6-3, 6-4, over Jessika Bays who also plays for IUPUI.
Guevara added a win in the Doubles B consolation final with her partner Cam Sabourin 8-2 over Andrea Arango and Kate Bonderanko from Northern Ohio. Sabourin also played singles, going three sets with Elena Strakhova from Detroit, falling 6-1, 1-6, 10-4.
Karine Celis played in the Singles A consolation final, where she fell 6-2, 6-2 to Cailtin O'Gara from Cincinnati. Grace Keating also played a Cincinnati player in the Singles C consolation final, falling 6-3, 6-3.
The Wright State Invitational was the final scheduled event of the non-championship fall season. However, players may earn individual invitations to ITA Winter Invitational tournaments.
