WOMEN'S TENNIS OPENS SPRING SEASON AT WESTERN MICHIGAN

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland women's tennis team opens the 2018 spring schedule with a dual meet at Western Michigan on Saturday, Jan 13 at 11 a.m. at the Soreson Courts in Kalamazoo, Mich.

The Golden Grizzlies had solid performances during the recent fall campaign:

Cougar Invitational (Sept. 10)
Sofia Borcuti won the Grey Flight singles title
▪ Darya Maltseva finished second in the White Flight singles draw
Amanda Nilsson placed third in the Gold Flight singles draw
Samantha Galloway and Allison Motea won two matches to secure a third-place finish in the White Flight doubles draw

Akron Shootout (Sept. 24)
▪ Maltseva and Borcuti (No. 2 doubles) and Motea and Galloway (No. 3 doubles) each finished with a perfect 3-0 record against Youngstown State, Cleveland State and host Akron
▪ Galloway and Nilsson led the Golden Grizzlies with a 2-1 singles mark at the No. 4 and No. 5 position respectively
▪ Oakland defeated CSU, YSU and Akron in doubles, 2-1
▪ In singles, the Golden Grizzlies tied Akron and CSU at 3-3 while falling to YSU, 5-1

ITA Midwest Regional Championships (Oct. 15)
▪ Maltseva went 1-1 in singles play with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 win over Marquette's Fluer Meggink followed by a 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 setback to Bowling Green's Marharita Tavpash in the qualifying draw
