Jan. 19, 2018

ROCHESTER, Mich. - For the second consecutive season, the Oakland women's tennis team was picked to finish seventh in the 2018 Horizon League Preseason Poll, announced by the league office on Friday and voted on by the league's 10 head coaches.

UIC was picked to win the league with five first place votes while four-time defending league champion Youngstown State was selected second with four first place votes. Cleveland State was picked to finish third followed by Wright State and Northern Kentucky to round out the top five.

Last season, the Golden Grizzlies finished fifth with a 4-5 league record and 8-13 overall mark. Oakland fell to Detroit Mercy in the quarterfinals of the league tournament.

All-League second-team selection Allison Motea returns to lead the Golden Grizzlies who opened the 2018 campaign with a hard fought 5-2 setback at Western Michigan last weekend. Conference play begins with a home match against UIC on March 24.
