ROCHESTER, Mich. -- Oakland volleyball head coach Rob Beam announced the schedule for the 2017 Spring season Tuesday. The season will consist of three dates of competition throughout the state of Michigan plus a game at Toledo.
“I think this is as important of a spring season as we have had in a number of years," said Beam. "This is true in part because of the significant role our seniors have played for four years and this is the time for new players to step forward and expand their roles. Additionally, we have some innovations that we are working diligently on in our training and in our systems and having great competition is essential part of the growth process. Thus far, our returning student-athletes have done an amazing job and I am particularly looking forward to the exciting month of play that will start at the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Event.”
Oakland opens competition Saturday, March 18 with the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Volleyball Showcase at Aquinas College. The Golden Grizzlies will face Michigan, Western Michigan and Xavier, whose assistant coach is former Oakland standout Amber Miehlke and is also the alma mater of Associate Head Coach Claire Galli.
Other away spring dates include March 24 at Toledo and April 8 at Michigan. Oakland will host Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan and Bowling Green April 1.
