Duquette Tabbed Summit League Defensive Player of the Week
ELMHURST, Ill. ???C After leading the Oakland University volleyball team's defensive effort this past weekend that saw the Golden Grizzlies get off to a 2-1 start, their best start since the 2001 season, senior libero Lauren Duquette was named The Summit League Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. Duquette earns the award after averaging 5.64 digs per set as the Golden Grizzlies picked up wins over Niagara and Sacred Heart. The senior tallied 62 digs in three matches, with one block assist, one service ace, and five assists. "(Duquette) had an exceptional junior season," said head coach Rob Beam. "To start out how she did, continuing her pace of great defensive play as well as accurate serve-receive, I"m not surprised she was given the award by the league." The Golden Grizzlies will return to action this weekend at the Redbird Classic hosted by Illinois State University in Normal, Ill., facing Western Michigan Friday at 5 p.m., Illinois State Saturday at noon, and Western Carolina Saturday at 5 p.m. -30-
