The Wright State volleyball team continued its solid play in the early season as the Raiders defeat Canisius Sunday at the Golden Grizzly Invitational 25-19, 25-19, 25-22.
At 4-1, WSU is off to its best start since going 7-1 in 2002.
Senior Lexi Leonhard (Temperance, MI) collected a team-high 10 kills with seven digs as junior Shaunda Sandifer (Calumet City, IL) added eight kills and a .353 kill percentage. Senior Tina Paunicka (Champaign, IL) ended the match with 19 assists and four kills as freshman Stefanie Shiramizu (Okemos, MI) added 14 digs.
The first set saw the Raiders in control from start to finish while the second and third sets had the lead change until WSU would take over for good. WSU hit .271 overall with a match high of .297 in the third and decisive set.
The Raiders are now 4-1 while Canisius dropped to 2-4. WSU will play North Texas at 3 pm Sunday afternoon.
