INDIANAPOLIS -- Oakland volleyball’s Darien Bandel and Sammy Condon were named to the 2017 Horizon League All-Academic Team announced by the league office Friday. Bandel, a senior from Ortonville, Mich., leads the Horizon League in total kills and kills per set while ranking seventh and 20th respectively in the NCAA in those same categories. She also ranks first in the conference in points per set (21st nationally) and total points (seventh in NCAA). Bandel carries a 3.40 grade-point average (GPA) in social work.
Condon, a redshirt senior from Naperville, Ill., became Oakland’s all-time leader this season in block assists and total blocks while also becoming the eighth player in program history to reach 1,000 career kills. She ranks first in the Horizon League in service aces and second in aces per set plus fifth in total blocks and sixth in blocks per set. Condon has a 3.75 GPA in elementary education.
To be eligible for All-Academic Team consideration, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve for their team, have completed at least 24 semester (or 36 quarter) hours at their institution and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20.
