Beam on the Early Signing Class
"This class is perhaps the most physically impressive that we have recruited to Oakland. As a group they possess height, athleticism, and skill. They, combined with our 2012 class, represent a next generation of Golden Grizzlies that will help us reach the lofty goals that we have set forward for the phase of our program.
Beam on Individual Players
Sammy Condon: "Sammy is one of the most match ready athletes that we have recruited to be a Golden Grizzly. She is fast, efficient, and is technically sound. I am looking for her to make an immediate impact on our program next season."
Jessica Dood: "Without question Jessica is one of the most gifted physical athletes that we have ever had at Oakland. She is relatively new to higher level volleyball, but she possesses all of the tools to be one of the most dominant right side attackers and blockers in the Summit League. She also has the skill to be able to run our offense as a setter."
Melissa Deatsch: "Melissa is a great competitor and has the complete game that will make her an outstanding six rotation player in our system. Her serve receive, defensive ability, fast arm, and aggressive serve will be huge assets to our program. On top of that, she is one of the most competitive young women that I have had the opportunity to recruit."
Rachel Grier: "Rachel is a versatile and highly skilled player and has experience hitting on both pins, as well as playing a primary ball control role. We will utilize her experience in multiple positions as she can score points as a hitter and provide steady ball control. In getting to know her in the process, it is clear that she is motivated to be the best that she can be in everything she does."
Gabrielle Iyamah: "I have been extremely impressed with Gabrielle since the first time I saw her play. Physically, she is an outstanding, natural jumper and has tremendous length. She has benefitted greatly from playing on one of the top club teams in her age group in the country, as well as for an outstanding high school program. Her athletic ability will allow her to continue to develop into one of the most dominant middles in the league."
Alli Gutschow: "Alli is a special athlete, she is a two-time first team all-state outside hitter at the high school level, we are going to train her as a libero. Her dynamic ability will make her a rangy defender and her experience as a primary passer will aid her transition into the primary ball control role at the Division I level. She is a very driven young woman and I know that she will make a huge impact on our program."
Beam on the Future Outlook of the Team
"This class will be counted on from day one. The five seniors that we graduate this year have made historic contributions to the program. While we cannot immediately replace their leadership or experience, our 2013 class has the same potential to raise the level of the program. These six will be vital in continuing the tradition of excellence that we have built over the past seasons."
