DEI

OVERVIEW

Oakland University Athletics seeks to cultivate a diverse and inclusive community, where student-athletes, coaches, staff, and guests feel welcomed, supported, and respected. Our diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) initiatives are grounded in the belief that we cannot build a foundation of collaboration by focusing on our differences, but on the shared aspirations, commitments, and challenges that unite us. Through department-wide summits, team workshops, monthly forums, community services initiatives, and campus and community partnerships, we seek to activate and advance the education, awareness, engagement, and commitment of our student-athletes, coaches, staff, and OU community.

Events include: Black History Month Featured Speaker, Celebrating Diversity Summit, Civic Engagement Jeopardy, Disability Awareness Education, Girls & Women in Sports & Fitness Day Panels, Hispanic Heritage Month Forum, Latin Dance Class (Cumbia, Merengue, Salsa), LGBTQ+ Tabling & Education, Local City Council Meetings, National Voter Registration Day, Oakland County Sheriff PAL Sport Clinics, OU Disability Support Services, OU MLK Keeper of the Dream Event, Special Olympics Michigan, Take Action & Learn More Educational Handouts (Hispanic Heritage Month, Disability Awareness, Civic Engagement, Black History Month, Women's History Month, LGBTQ+ Pride), Taste of Culture, Women's History Month Panel, and World Cup Watch Party.
